High Country United Church is home to a fabulous church family of all ages. All are welcome to all that we offer.
About the land we gather on: We acknowledge that our church home is on land that has been cared for by aboriginal peoples long before us. We gather on the traditional land of the Chippewa, Ojibway, Mississauga, Anishinabe, Haudenosaunee/Iroquois, Huron-Wendat and Attawandaron/Neutrals peoples (Treaty 18, dated 1918). We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions of Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole. As settlers, this recognition of the contributions and historic importance of Indigenous peoples must also be clearly and overtly connected to our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our communities, and in particular to bring justice for murdered and missing indigenous women and girls across our country. About our Minister: Rev. Janet Jones has been in ministry with High Country United since September of 2014. She has a passion for all ages and enjoys engaging youth in our community. She graduated from Emmanuel College in Toronto in 2016 with a M.Div and ordained in May 2017. She says her favourite part about being with High Country United Church is the people and their willingness to try something new, to play together and that we're always looking for meaningful ways to connect with the wider community and the world. She's named that her purpose in life is to make an impact on homelessness and hunger, and we support her work with various organizations and committees as we stay up-to-date and take part in the opportunities that arise.
About Sunday Services: Worship begins at 10:30AM on Sundays and lasts for about an hour. We enjoy singing, playing, and praying together. Everyone is together for the first portion of the service and then the young people go to our bright and airy lower hall for Sunday School. We have a lovely choir and musicians who offer their gifts and talents to the service from time to time. We encourage all ages to participate in the life of worship. After worship, we all head to the lower hall for refreshments and fellowship.
About Family Sundays: Family Sundays occur once a month. It takes place during our regular worship, beginning at 10:30AM and lasts about an hour, with everyone in worship (no Sunday School). We have done skits, conversations, music or skills we learn in the moment and so forth. The hymns and prayers may be a little different. This is a time where we can be together inter-generationally, and learn and grow together, while worshiping in ways that take us beyond our normal worship mode. We hope you can join us and welcome any ideas (songs, prayers, thoughts) you'd like to explore.
