As I think of what life will be like when things open up like they used to be, I wonder what things will be different when we return to 'normal'. Will people who aren't feeling well wear masks when they go out? Will hand sanitizer be a thing we do as we enter public spaces? Will capacity limits be a thing for a while, and if so, at what numbers? Will businesses offer employees sick days? Do we ask folks what precautions to take before we go over for a visit?
These really are small questions in the bigger picture of gatherings. I don't think it will matter much because we long to be together. We miss visiting with family and friends, holding hands and giving hugs, singing and dancing, praying and playing. I'm okay if someone asks me to wear a mask when visiting them, to keep them healthy and safe. I'm okay carrying hand sanitizer in my bag. I'm okay staying home if I'm unwell.
I wonder what you're wondering about in a post-pandemic world. I wonder what things you hope will continue and what things you can't wait to ease up.
A prayer for today:
God of all, as we see numbers decline in our area, help us to continue to keep each other safe. We give thanks that you walk this journey with us and guide us in ways that are community-minded. We pray for all those who are in hospital and pray that they feel your presence surrounding them. Continue to be in those who are working to heal them. Be with all of us who may be traveling or preparing to go out into places we haven't been in quite some time. Share with us your light and love in the world and may that light and love shine abundantly through us. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
